ThoughtMatters utilises a variety of therapy models including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Motivational Interviewing and Person-Centred Therapy to provide a safe space where you can explore and examine your experiences and options, discover what may be preventing you from using your resources, recognise your own strengths, find solutions and apply them to achieve your self-determined goal.
During your initial appointment we will aim to gain a detailed understanding of you and your needs, which is important so that subsequent sessions are always relevant and helpful to you. We will work with you to discuss your goals, expectations and the best way to manage and improve your situation. Therapy progress will be reviewed with reference to your goals and you will be encouraged to provide feedback to ensure that your needs are met.
Appointments are 1 hour in duration, unless longer appointments are required. Couples sessions can sometimes require 90 minutes. Most people choose to meet weekly and, as they progress, this can move to less frequent intervals. The choice to continue always remains with you, however, we do require that you give a minimum of 24 hours notice to postpone or cancel an appointment.
We can also arrange online counselling sessions by Skype, where it is not convenient or possible to come in person. Read more...
Confidentiality As professional counsellors, we are bound by the laws of confidentiality. What is discussed in all sessions is strictly confidential and, without your consent, your information will not be disclosed to anyone.
As with all therapists, there are some circumstances where we may not be able to maintain that confidentiality. For example, in situations where there may be potential harm to yourself or others, or if the law demands it, we may have a duty of care to disclose the information. Wherever possible, we will discuss any concerns of this nature with you before disclosing to another party.
